About This Urn

The Shell is a biodegradable water urn shaped like an open scallop shell, sized to hold two portions of remains for a companion farewell at sea. It suits couples, siblings, or lifelong friends who wish to be released together. This version is finished in a natural sand tone that echoes the beach itself.

Materials & Finish

The urn is made from plant-based biodegradable material, molded by hand into the ribbed curves of a scallop shell. Every piece is finished individually before it leaves the workshop.

The Sand finish is left close to the material's natural tone, so the shell looks as if it were found rather than made. Placed on water, it floats for a short while, then sinks and breaks down completely, leaving nothing behind. A donation is made to an ocean conservation organization with every Shell urn sold.

How to Fill & Seal

Place the biodegradable bag inside the shell and fill it with the ashes for each person being farewelled, then draw the bag closed. Fold the two halves of the shell together and press the seam firmly to close. No glue is required.
